“There are two fatal errors that keep great projects from coming to life:

1) Not finishing
2) Not starting”

― Buddha Gautama

These are few ongoing interests or projects I’m working on.

Cozzolani Reunited

This project has consumed so much of my energy this summer that I’ve made a separate page on the site for it. Please check it out!

Oberlin Virtual Baroque Performance Institute

BPI is holding its 49th annual workshop as a “virtual” institute, complete with online masterclasses, concerts, and other events. I had a blast helping with Joe Gascho’s continuo class in addition to running the lute class and helping to organize the final student recital. I also prepared three videos for BPI, including a virtual tour of my instrument collection.

Basso Continuo classes on Zoom

My colleague Professor Joseph Gascho and I offered an online course called “Intro to Basso Continuo for All Musicians” in the summer of 2020, continuing some team-teaching we had fun with for the evening continuo class at the virtual Oberlin BPI. We had a blast doing this together, and are discussing plans for a more specialized class for January 2021 on Baroque song. Stay tuned for details!

The #BaroqueMetalProject

Mostly to goof off and cheer up my early music colleagues during the COVID19 lockdown, I’ve made a few videos playing Baroque music on the electric guitar. My colleague Eric Milnes (conductor & early keyboards) got involved and METALBACH was born. Check them out below if you’re into that sort of thing.

METAL BACH #1: Christ lag in Todesbanden tenor aria

METAL BACH #2: Deposuit from the Magnificat

My original Zerfleisse meine Herze video which started it during the early COVID lockdown.

With Eric Milnes’s added power trio.

An early experiment in the METAL BACH aesthetic.
