“Life seems to go on without effort when I am filled with music.”

– George Eliot

Though there’s uncertainty in the life of a freelance lutenist, I appreciate the variety of the musical situations I’m invited to work in. Below you’ll find a list of ensembles and artists I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past 20 or so years.

First, a few ensembles I have a special connection to:

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.  One of the world’s leading Baroque orchestras, directed for years by Jeanne Lamon and now by Elisa Citterio.  I’ve been honoured to be this group’s primary lutenist for over two decades, having joined them for many different concert projects, tours, recordings, and workshops.

Vesuvius Ensemble.  Vesuvius is possibly the only ensemble in North America dedicated to the folk music of Southern Italy.  Led by Francesco Pellegrino, a tenor from Italy’s Campania region, the group performs songs in original Southern dialects accompanied by rustic instruments typical of the region (chitarra battente, colascione, ciaramella, etc.).  The ensemble’s programming often combines the folk music together with composed repertoire that was inspired by it.

Lute Legends Ensemble.  This unusual group is a trio of virtuosi from three very different ancient traditions of plucked-string music: that of the pipa (China), oud (Middle East), and the lute (Europe).

Here is a list of other ensembles & artists I’ve enjoyed working with in the past:
